Cleaning Files Facts…

Hi All… Everybody knows how valuable our files are, so to keep the integrity of your files is it important to do some housekeeping once in while… But this can be a tedious task that involve multiples steps…
A big number of users like to create Lisp routines, to execute all these steps; but for those of us that do not have a clue how to do something like that, you can use an Action Recorder Macro. These are used to record commands and input values that can be played back as an action macro.
They are very easy to use and you can find all the information that you need on the AutoCAD Help file.
This is what I like to do, to clean my files…

Because of those unwanted DGN Linetypes issue, I always like to run the DGNPURGE command alone with an AUDIT and a –PURGE to erase any Regapps present on the file and of course QSAVE the drawing.
So I created a macro that grouped all these steps on one command that I called CLEANDWG
Here is how my Macro looks like:
Important!!!
Please remember that the DGNPURGE command will not stay loaded on your system after shutting down AutoCAD. If you need to use this command in future sessions of AutoCAD, you will need to reload the DGNLsPurge.dll by using the NETLOAD command.

And you can use this macro by just typing CLEANDWG on the command line…
Have fun creating your own macros and…
 … To all!!!

Excel Spreadsheet OLE Objects in AutoCAD…

Hi everybody… This is a conversation that I had more than once in last week…
Some customer are having issues trying to link an Excel spreadsheet as an OLE object in AutoCAD using the OLE Object insert command INSERTOBJ.
Using this command they can’t seems to control the area that they are trying to show, so the display of the information showing is incomplete most of the time.
Here is what I do to make it work:
1. From within Excel, Select the area that you want to show in AutoCAD
2. From AutoCAD -> Home Tab -> Clipboard panel -> Paste Special
3. Paste link -> Microsoft Excel -> Worksheet and click OK
To edit use the OLELINKS command so you can change the source range using the "change source" box.
Doing it like this, you will stay link to the original document so any change that you make to the Excel document will automatically shows on AutoCAD, and also works the other way around.
Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

How can I download an older version of any Autodesk software???

Hello everybody…. This is a question that I been asked over and over again by many customers…
If you are a customer on Subscription and you are looking for a previous release of the software that you own, just log on into your Subscription Center and there you will find it.
But what about if you don’t have subscription or if you want to download any 2012 or 2013 software?… In Autodesk.com you can only see current releases from the applications…
So what do you do then…???
You can actually download older version of any Autodesk software from Autodesk.com; this is what you need to do:
1. Go to Up and Ready
2. Now click in ASK
3. From the new window that just open, select Download Links
5. And select the Product that you are looking for…
Hope that you will find this helpful… I sure did… so enjoy it!!!

Those unwanted DGN Linetypes on my file....

Hi all, its been a while since the last time that I wrote here... This time I would like to talk about an old issue that it became really big in Latin America.
Files with almost no information on it that shows a really big size, and every time that you are copying and pasting objects from one drawing to another all these DGN linetypes are coming alone with you.
When this happens the RECOVERY command AUDIT and -PURGE will not do anything for you, neither any method to recreate the problematic file.
How to know if that is your case....? ??
Run the PURGE command, select the option to view items that you cannot purge and if you have some of these linetypes they will show under blocks.
Autodesk has release two AutoCAD DGN Hotfix for this that will work on any AutoCAD-Based software:
Please remember to always refer to the README file for installation and use.
